Our ruggedness taking us to new heights:

We've already been to Everest, now follow the travels of Andrew Lock and his Opentec as he pursues his vision of being the first Australian to scale - and safely descend - all 14 of the world's '8,000ers'.

The '8,000ers' are the 14 of the world's mountain peaks that rise above 8,000 metres from sea level. Not the places you'd take equipment you couldn't rely on to survive and perform. No surprise then that Andrew, whose success depends on his own endurance and the durability of the equipment he chooses, chose an Opentec to take with him.

Andrew knew of our reputation for reliability and durability from other mountaineering groups such as the Australian Army Alpine Association, so was very keen to secure an RPC with on-board heaters and a large capacity HDD to store his photos and trip records.

Beyond tough: Andrew relies on Opentec

After his last trip, Andrew reported that, despite temperatures at night that dropped to minus 20 degrees Celsius (and that was at about 4,000 metres altitude), the in-built heater ensured that the Openfire RPC 13M started quickly and ran without any mishaps, every time. Andrew Lock en route to being to first Australian
to summit of Annapurna 1, @ 8091 metres.
This was his 12th '8000er', which he reached
at 3.20pm on 24 May 2007.

Andrew raises funds for his trips through corporate presentations and motivational speeches, so relies absolutely on his computer for trip information, including photos, plans and diaries. Losing data means not only does a trip go bad, but his means of funding future trips could be wiped out.

Next trip.... well, stay tuned for what we have for him in later reports!
