New Wearable UMPC with integrated Biometrics announced:
Codenamed the 'Openfire' RmPT 5-M, it's the world's smallest 'military rugged', Windows XP Pro/Windows 7 compatible handheld computer. While not much larger than our RPDA 6 PDA, it has a 5" LCD and a range of connectivity options, including a tactical radio data port.
What makes it unique is that via an add-on module and some clever software, it becomes a multi-modal biometrics collection, verification and communication system, allowing fingerprint/latent fingerprint, facial and iris scanning, with optional slap (full palm) scanning via an extrnal scanner.
In its biometrics format it's called 'TrioMetrics', which is the first integrated multi-modal biometrics data collection system on a UMPC (ultra-miniature PC) that not only collects and creates standards complaint biometrics template files (EFTs for finger, EBTs for face etc), it can also verify data against proprietary formatted EFTs and EBTs, without needing an external translation server to handle the transaction.
So while the RmPC 5-M is impressive enough, the TrioMetrics system delivers world-class multi-modal biometrics capabilities into rugged and remote locations, in a compact and durable format.
