Scripting
"Give dumb serial devices an IQ using custom scripts!"
Scripting allows the PocketPAD Java (which supports industry standard Java scripts) and the EtherPAD DUO or DIO models (which support Multenet's proprietary SANscript language) to actively 'read' serial data and take actions as per the scripts. And to make things easier, Multenet provides a library of sample scripts for commonly used applications (such as "Auto-Day/Time Data Capture", or "Auto-Email Notification") to help you get started.
These custom scripts act as SNMP "traps" and either store the information in a database for future retrieval (eg, a fault log), or forward immediately (eg, via email as notification of an alarm threshold being exceeded). SANscript creates an SNMP MIB table on an EtherPAD, and is a simple programming environment in which to implement your own embedded serial driver, SNMP MIB, and SNMP traps. The Java device offers a broader and more complex array of commands via the Java scripting platform.
By delivering this information to standard business applications such as databases (eg, Excel or Access) for future review, web browsers for realtime visualisation, or email for event and alarm warnings, the scripting delivers increased device uptime, optimised maintenance scheduling, and immediate reporting of mission critical failures.
With Multenet scripting, you really CAN give dumb serial devices an IQ!!
NOTE: not supported by PocketPADs; comes as standard with DIOs
