Water & Dust

Built to MIL-STD810E to survive where others won't.
It really does pay to understand what a vendor claims and what is actually being offered. All our products are IP54 rated (will survive 4" rain for exteded periods) and our PDA has the option of fully verified IP67 compliance (will survive total immersion in water to 1m for 30 minutes). It's for these reasons our products have seen long service histories in areas as diverse as ocean yacht racing, and hydrography, where reliable and GENUINELY water and dustproof computers are an absolute must!
BEWARE! Some vendors offer you "Water and Dust Resistant" products. We offer full MIL-STD 810E compliant product. THE TWO ARE as different as chalk and cheese!
Water Resistance Test, MIL-STD-810E, Method 506.3:
Procedure I (Blowing Rain)
The Water resistance test subjected the unit to 114mm/hour (>4"/hour) rainfall for 30 minutes. The Openfire was tested while on and fully operational with the LCD panel open and port covers in place. The Openfire is opened following testing to inspect for water intrusion. No water penetrates the unit.
Salt Fog Test, MIL-STD-810E, Method 509:
The Openfire is placed in a salt fog chamber for 48 hours with the salt fog spray at 35°C (95°F). The Openfire continues to operate following the Salt Fog testing.
Some vendors will happily demonstrate how pouring a small glass of clean, fresh water over the keyboard of their computer won't render it useless. But in the Great Outdoors, high humidity, unexpected downpours, an unplanned fall into a muddy paddock or a fast running river, or wind-driven salt spray can make the threat of a spilled glass of water pale away into insignificance.
