What does 'Military/Super Rugged' mean?

With many vendors claiming MIL-STD 810F compliance for their products, it's little wonder that customers often feel that a brand name alone is an assurance of a product's suitability to a particular role. So why is it that Opentec continues to deliver products into environments where other vendor's apparently equivalent products have been tried and have repeatedly failed?Why is what one vendor claims to be "military standards compliant' simply isn't even up to an Industrial application (when the implication is it's designed to meet military standards, hence military applications)?

The reality is that Opentec delivers the most durable battlefield proven portable computers on the Australian market. With experience dating back to the early 1990s, it's a capability borne of years of trial, error, refinement, ingenuity and engineering excellence. And with new products being added to our range that have similarly passed not only the most stringent tests, but have been proven in the harshest land, sea and airborne applications, it's little wonder we dominate the military portable computer market in this country.

Note that 'EW' (or Electronic Warfare) requirements relate to emissions, not physical durability. These are addressed under the MIL-STD 461 test regimes, with varying levels from 'Navy' (similar to standard comemrcial EMC requirements - not suitable for EW applications) to 'Ground Army', being the most stringent and the level suitable for EW (secret, top secret, etc) applications.
